Srinagar, Sept 29: Senior National Conference (NC) leader and Member Parliament (MP) Srinagar constituency Syed Aga Ruhulla Monday said that party interest matters more than national interest for Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).
Talking to reporters during his visit to Chrar-e-Shareef Ruhulla while referring to situation in Leh and arrest of Sonam Wangchuk under NSA, said that it should be clear to everyone that the BJP regime does not look at the national interest.
"It looks at the party interest. Any person or any party or any state, as long as they speak their mind, they are happy. If that same person, be it from any religion- Buddhist, Hindu or Muslim, if he speaks against the BJP policies, the party makes them enemies of the country," Ruhulla said.
He said that even if people speak in a peaceful way or in a democratic way, they are booked under NSA and PSA.
"This was the reality of the Kashmiri people earlier. Now, this reality is coming to Ladakh as well as to the Jammu. We would like to say that we are with the people of Ladakh in the legitimate fight," he said.
He said the demand of people is to empower them, raise them to the status of the State and to include them in the sixth schedule.
"If that is their demand, then we are with that demand," he said.
Ruhulla said that most of the people in Ladakh want either to reconnect with Jammu and Kashmir or to restore our status as it was before 2019.
"If that is their demand, then we are with that as well. So, this is a fight for all of us," he said.
He said that when the State of Jammu and Kashmir was downgraded, status was reduced and it was divided everyone raised the voice that it was not in the interest of the State.
"We still say it.This disempowerment is not in the interest of the state," he said.
Referring to protest led by Sonam Wangchuk, Ruhulla said that those people who were probably earlier happy with these issues and happy with the state's division and the state's disempowerment, have also realized that this disempowerment is not in anyone's interest.
"The decisions are taken in Delhi, without our permission. And if any dissent, or protest, or objection is made against it then people are booked under PSA, UAPA. This was the norm in Kashmir. Now, some people who spoke in favour of BJP, for 4-5 years, or 10 years, (2:15) today, the same UAPA, NSA law has been enforced on the same person," he said.
About his stand on Article 370, he said people have given him mandate which makes it his responsibility for their protections and guarantee them their rights are safeguarded.
"Iam committed to fight for it even if I have to fight alone, I am committed to that fight," he said.
