Baramulla Police Intensify Crackdown: arrest drug peddlers, seize charas, conduct searches against proscribed outfit

Baramulla, Jan 7: In a continued drive against the drug menace, Baramulla Police apprehended two persons during naka checking at Faqir-Bagh.

During preliminary enquiry, the apprehended persons disclosed their identities as Nisar Ahmad Malla son of Ghulam Mohammad Malla and Mohammad Ashraf Malla son of Ghulam Qadir Malla, both hailing from Doudbugh Chandoosa. 

Upon personal search, 467 grams of charas powder-like substance along with one mobile phone were recovered from the possession of Nisar Ahmad Malla. Additionally, 33 grams of charas-like substance, net cash ₹7,240, and one mobile phone were recovered from the possession of Mohammad Ashraf Malla.

In this regard, FIR No. 01/2026 U/S 8/20-29 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Chandoosa, and investigation has been set into motion.

"Baramulla Police remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and urges the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to narcotics activities," a Police handout reads.

Meanwhile, acting on specific and credible information, Police Post Wagoora at about 2100 hours on January 6 of 2025 received an input that one individual, namely Farooq Ahmad Chopan @ Beta son of Ghulam Hassan Chopan from Watergam, had illegally stored a charas-like substance at his residence.


Accordingly, a case FIR No. 02/2026, U/S 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kreeri.

"During the course of investigation, the matter was shared with the SHO Police Station Kreeri and the Executive Magistrate Wagoora, who accompanied the police team to the spot to ensure due legal procedure," an official handout reads.

During the search operation, a charas-like contraband weighing 7.212 kilograms was recovered and seized on the spot in the presence of the Executive Magistrate Wagoora and independent witnesses, including Numberdars, former Sarpanches, and police officials of Police Post Wagoora.

"The accused person is yet to be arrested, and further investigation is underway," it reads.

In a separate action, Baramulla Police conducted searches at Mirchimarg, Mirgund, under the jurisdiction of Police Post Mirgund, at the residences of Ghulam Hussain Malik son of Mohammad Ibrahim Malik and Ghulam Mohammad Sofi son of Mohammad Abdullah Sofi, who had remained members of a proscribed organisation, namely J&K Itihadul Muslimeen.


The searches were conducted in connection with FIR No. 45/2025 of Police Station Pattan register U/S 10,13 UA(P) Act , 147,148 BNS, after obtaining a valid search warrant from the Hon’ble Judicial Magistrate Ist Class, Singhpora, Pattan.

The proceedings were conducted in the presence of the Executive Magistrate Ist Class, Singhpora, along with the concerned Numberdar, strictly adhering to due legal procedure.

"Baramulla Police reiterates its commitment to act strictly in accordance with law while ensuring transparency, professionalism, and respect for legal safeguards," the handout reads.
